J. C. Bose Grant (JBG)-ANRF

The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) has announced the call for proposals for a new research scheme, the J. C. Bose Grant. This scheme is a restructured version of the J. C. Bose Fellowship previously managed by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB). The J. C. Bose Grant aims to recognize and support senior scientists and engineers in India who have made significant contributions in their fields. The grant is targeted at senior researchers with a proven track record of excellence in areas such as publications, patents, technology transfers, and awards across science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and humanities, particularly where science and technology intersect. Eligible nominees must be Indian nationals working at senior levels in Indian institutions or universities. Nominations for the grant must be submitted by the Heads of Institutions/Universities or the Presidents of National Science Academies through the ANRF online portal. The selection of grant recipients will be made by a specially constituted Search-cum-Selection Committee, and the process will be conducted annually. The J. C. Bose Grant offers an annual funding of Rs. 25 lakhs, divided into recurring (manpower, consumables, travel, and contingencies) and non-recurring (equipment) components, with a fixed overhead of Rs. 1.0 lakh per year for the implementing institution. The grant is awarded for a period of five years, and if the principal investigator (PI) superannuates during this period, the grant can continue if the host institution agrees. Researchers can avail of the grant until the age of 68. This prestigious grant is designed to further enhance the research efforts of distinguished scientists and engineers in India.

DBT-BIRAC Joint Call for Proposals on ‘Precision Biotherapeutics-Cell and Gene Therapy’ for Fostering High Performance Biomanufacturing under BioE3 Policy

The DBT-BIRAC Joint Call for Proposals on "Precision Biotherapeutics-Cell and Gene Therapy" aims to advance high-performance biomanufacturing in India, as outlined in the BioE3 Policy approved in August 2024. The initiative focuses on fostering innovation in Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT), a rapidly evolving field with transformative potential for treating complex diseases. Proposals are invited in two categories: (1) Discovery & Application-oriented Integrated Network Research (TRL: 3-5), which aims to advance gene delivery vectors, gene editing techniques, and cell-based therapies; and (2) Bridging the Gaps for Scale-up (TRL: 5-8), which targets clinical translation, scaling-up production, and clinical trials for CGTs. The call seeks proposals that foster collaboration between academia, industry, and clinical researchers, with a clear development plan, milestones, and risk management strategies. The funding will be available to both academic institutions and industry participants, with varying support based on project scope. The initiative aims to build indigenous capabilities, accelerate clinical advancements, and create affordable CGT candidates to contribute to India's bioeconomy and green growth.
