EMBO-Global Lecture Courses(Funding for lecture courses for scientific exchange beyond European borders)

EMBO Global Lecture Courses facilitate scientific exchange outside of Europe, focusing on life sciences topics for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers. These courses aim to make complex topics accessible to scientists from various backgrounds by providing foundational knowledge. The courses can only be organized in select countries, including Brazil, Chile, Canada, China, India, Japan, Mexico, Republic of Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan. Organizers must justify how the course addresses a local scientific need and ensure a diverse organizing committee, both geographically and by gender, representing multiple institutes. Organizers are encouraged to contact the EMBO office at least four weeks before the application deadline, especially if applying for the first time.

Call for proposals on “Translational Research using GenomeIndia Data”

The Genome India Project, supported by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), aims to map the genetic diversity of India and understand how genetic variations contribute to diseases, health conditions, and drug responses across different ethnic groups. The project has sequenced 10,000 Indian genomes and seeks to create a comprehensive database to improve public health and drive medical innovations.

The current call invites researchers and institutions to use GIP data for translational research in areas such as developing reference genomes for Indian communities, identifying genetic risk factors, creating cost-effective diagnostic tools, and advancing precision medicine. Proposals should have clear research goals, adhere to ethical guidelines, and avoid primary data generation.

Eligibility includes Indian nationals in recognized institutions, with a focus on multi-disciplinary teams. Financial support of up to Rs 50 Lakhs is available for projects lasting up to two years.

HFSP Research Grant Program

The HFSP Research Grant Program supports innovative, interdisciplinary research addressing fundamental biological problems. Emphasizing novel approaches, the program encourages collaboration across national and disciplinary boundaries, particularly involving fields outside traditional life sciences such as biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, engineering, mathematics, nanoscience, and physics. Research grants are provided for teams of scientists from different countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories. Preliminary results are not required and applicants are expected to develop new lines of research through the research collaboration. While recognizing the inherent risks in such pioneering research, the program expects teams to outline strategies for risk mitigation and goal achievement. Applications focused on applied or medical research are not eligible. Two types of Grant are available: Research Grants – Early Career and Research Grants – Program.
