BioInnovation Institute & Science Translational Medicine Prize for Innovations in Women’s Health

The Prize aims to recognize researchers who have developed innovative advances with translational potential to impact women’s health globally.
Contributions within any area of women’s health* will be considered. These may cover work in areas of female-specific conditions including maternal health and chronic gynecological diseases, reproductive health including contraception and infertility affecting all persons, or elucidation of sex- and gender-specific approaches to conditions that affect women differently or disproportionately.

ASU–Science Prize for Transformational Impact

The ASU-Science Prize for Transformational Impact recognizes the importance of innovative, use-inspired research, intentionally designed to address pressing problems.  This prize recognizes transformational research that uses innovative methods and approaches to identify problems and develop solutions with impacts on policy and decision-making. The research should be designed, executed, and communicated with explicit consideration for the problem(s) and how the research contributes to a solution outcome. Such work considers the values and interests of different communities, typically with attention to ethical, economic, political, or legal contexts. The research is often collaborative, drawing on multiple disciplines, driven by desired outcomes, and considering implications for policy and decision-making. Examples could include research that addresses human and environmental health, improves education and social outcomes, or evaluates beneficial use of synthetic biology and artificial intelligence technologies.

The grand prize winner will receive a prize of $30,000 USD and their prize-winning essay will be published in science online and print. A finalist will receive $10,000 USD and their essay published in science online. Both will be honored at an award ceremony in Phoenix, Arizona in spring 2027.

Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists

The Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists was established in 2013. A global Prize aimed at rewarding scientists at an early stage of their careers. Science, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and SciLifeLab, joined forces in creating the Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists to recognize excellence amongst young researchers from around the world. The Prize was launched with the vision to recognize that global economic health is dependent upon a vibrant research community. A vision that will only come true if we encourage our best and brightest to continue in their chosen fields of research. The international Prize is awarded annually to four young scientists for outstanding life science research based on a doctoral degree earned in the previous two years. NATIONAL SCIENCE CHAIR

The landscape of Indian science has been expanding at an accelerated pace. It is therefore advisable to match the pace while providing opportunities for growth of senior scientists, even beyond superannuation too. In the absence of these opportunities, eminent academicians and performing senior scientists, at times face challenges to continue research. These scientists possess great amount of knowledge and more importantly the experience that they have accumulated over many years, a non-replaceable treasure that can be lost if avenues are not made available to them. These elites have an excellent track record as evidenced by their election to the prestigious Science and Engineering Academics as well as high impact publications, patents and recognition. Although, there is currently no systematic data regarding the highly knowledgeable retirees productivity all over the world, a survey conducted in 2014 revealed that out of the superannuated medical professors from 20 countries, many continued teaching and more than 40% had published research papers and / or books of repute. There are a few chairs/professorships available in the country instituted by various ministries / departments/ academies with public funds. Considering the limited number of such opportunities, ANRF has been catering to one such scheme - National Science Chair (NSC).

DST – DFG announcement on funding opportunity for Indo-German Research Training Groups (IRTG)

International Research Training Groups (IRTGs), in which German universities cooperate with research institutions in other countries, combine innovative top-level research and the structured promotion of excellent early career researchers. As bilateral collaborations set up by experienced scientists, IRTGs promote systematic scientific cooperation through joint research programmes and corresponding qualification measures for (post) doctoral researchers.

A central feature of International Research Training Groups are coordinated and reciprocal research visits by doctoral researchers at the respective partner institutions. IRTGs can only be established by universities and research institutions entitled to confer doctoral degrees.

GRAND CHALLENGES INDIA CALL ON THE TRANSFORMATIVE SANITATION TECHNOLOGIES -TST

"The Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) and Grand Challenges India have announced the “Transformative Sanitation Technologies (TST)” call, inviting Indian-led entities—companie, NGOs/societies, academic institutions, government agencies—for the development of off-grid, decentralised sanitation solutions that treat waste onsite, use minimal water, recycle treated water and are regulation-ready for household or community settings. The India TST call thus aims to identify, support, and scale a new generation of indigenous sanitation technologies solutions that are off-grid & decentralized, ensures pathogen-free waste, meets environmental norms, low on water usage, promotes recycling, cost effective, regulation-ready, and built for the realities of India’s diverse contexts. The challenge sparks a powerful opportunity to develop a new generation of Transformative Sanitation Technologies (TSTs), by catalysing the development and piloting of working models of advanced, decentralized wastewater management and toilet technologies. The goal is not just to improve toilets, but to embed them in India’s broader development vision and reimagine them as closed-loop, resource-recovering, digitally enabled systems that tackle water stress, environmental degradation, and public health risks simultaneously. Thus, the need is two-fold: to build a pipeline of novel, economically sound, and robust TSTs, and to ensure they are designed for mass diffusion and last-mile deployment. By supporting innovators through funding, technical handholding, and deployment pathways, the TST Challenge will help create market-ready, regulation-compliant, and relevant products for the Indian ecosystem and beyond."
